Kathy Avrich-Johnson Kathy Avrich-Johnson is a senior entertainment lawyer devoted to the legal and business needs of her film & television clients.

Kathy’s business and legal expertise – in all phases of production and distribution from the acquisition of rights, through financing, and deal structuring to production and exploitation – is highly valued.

She is the Producer of the CBC series “Getting Along Famously”, upcoming Opening Night shows “Is It Art?” and “All Dressed Up and Places to Go”. She holds Executive Producer credits on several features and Allan King’s three most recent documentaries.

Kathy provides a straight-forward, practical approach to issues and assignments.

Kathy’s recent legal work includes:

  • Structuring financing and negotiating license and rights agreements for numerous documentary producers.
  • Negotiating and securing development monies from broadcasters and funding agencies.
  • Preparing international co-productions agreements.
  • Provided errors and omissions clearance on a complex feature documentary with extensive E&O issues.

Kathy Avrich-Johnson has practiced entertainment law since 1983.

She holds degrees in history and political science from Carleton University (‘77) and in law from McGill University (‘81).
